Stars’ gowns danced down the Oscar red carpet

“Black Swan” graced the Oscars on Sunday night in several ways: Besides Natalie Portman in her Rodarte violet-colored draped gown in silk chiffon with Swarovski crystals, co-star Mila Kunis wore a very low-cut, lingerie-style Elie Saab gown in lavender with lace details. But other stars had a bit of a dancer vibe, including Mandy Moore in a gold-beaded, illusion gown by Monique Lhuillier and Hailee Steinfeld’s custom-made Marchesa.

Steinfeld accessorized her crystal-covered, hand-embroidered, tea-length tulle dress in pale pink with a ballerina-style, diamond-and-platinum Fred Leighton headband.

Paul Smith shows off boyish charms in London

British designer Paul Smith has gone back to his roots in London Fashion Week with mannish suits for girls featuring ties, oversized coats and rolled-up trousers flashing socks and brogues.

Smith’s first shop in 1970 sold menswear and he only branched out into women’s clothing 15 years ago. His autumn-winter 2011 collection, unveiled on Monday, embraced that early boyish charm with sharp tailoring in cashmere, wool and silk.

“It was a collection that was going back to my roots,” the designer told AFP after his show at the newly refurbished Savoy hotel in London.

As Coco Chanel once said, A woman with good shoes is never ugly. Running with that theme, look to Camilla Skovgaards architectural, killer heeled shoes which are awe-inspiring to say the least and are guaranteed to turn heads. From frosted leather to glossy patent each pair bares the Skovgaard jagged edge sole for a touch of uniqueness. The super vertiginous (and somewhat confusingly titled) Trekking Sandal is where our heart lies though the suede/leather combo, ankle detailing and liberal studs make for a style force to be reckoned with.
