The Holidays – 2 Days

Having just finished up a series of festival slots including St Jeromes Laneway, South by Southwest, Groovin the Moo and the Great Escape, you could say big things are happening for Sydney boys The Holidays.

With a fun, classic rock and roll vibe (they cite Television and Teenage Fanclub as early influences), their debut album, “Post Paradise” released in 2010, is full of catchy, foot stompin’ tunes that have the industry praising them – and it’s not hard to see why!

They have scooped up a swag of awards including the Australian Music Prize’s Best Debut Album, and we are loving ’2 Days’, which we are spinning all this month instore.

BERLIN (Reuters Life!) – “Green glamour” is returning Berlins fashion week to the map of trend-setting capitals, just at a time when consumers are turning to all things eco-friendly.

Two major “green” shows are exhibiting at this weeks Berlin fashion week that ends on Friday.

They have recently been bought by Frankfurt Fair, the worlds leader in textile and textile-technology, sending strong signals for sustainable products in the fashion sector .

“Sustainability is not a short-term trend, but a great new paradigm,” Frankfurt Fair Chief Executive Detlef Braun told Reuters, adding that it was a lifestyle, affecting everything from production to retail.

In the last couple of years, eco textiles and fashion “have experienced a great leap forward, entering the fashion capitals of the world,” Braun added.

Its also good for business.

“Labels realize that they wont get around the issue anymore, especially as consumers are increasingly conscious of the sustainability of the products they buy,” said Friederike von Wedel of Berlins ESMOD international fashion institute.

“Berlin is becoming an ever more important location for green fashion with international labels coming to enter the European market,” said von Wedel, who directs the worlds first master programme on sustainable fashion.

German voters have recently sent strong signals in favor of green policy. T

DAKAR (AFP) – Designer Beatrice “Bee” Arthurs creations are as eclectic and mixed as her Russian-Ghanaian heritage, and she is proving at the Dakar Fashion Week that African fabric and design can be “funky and fun”.

The flamboyant 41-year-old has mixed linen with Malian mudcloth, African wax print with net and sequins into modern, cosmopolitan designs that can be worn on the streets of Accra or in the worlds fashion capitals.
